(Montreal) To mark the centenary of artist, director and environmental activist Frédéric Back, TOHU is organizing different activities all summer. Screenings, conferences and workshops are available, both on the TOHU site and at the park bearing the artist’s name in Montreal.
Frédéric Back, known in particular for his short films The man who planted trees And Crack, would have been 100 years old on April 8. He was also an illustrator and muralist. Mr. Back died on December 24, 2013.
The inauguration evening of the festivities will take place on June 20. Environmentalist Laure Waridel, spokesperson for the event, will speak to highlight the artist’s accomplishments. Mr. Back’s son, Christian, will also pay tribute to his father on this occasion.
Multidisciplinary artist Dominique Desbiens will also begin a collaborative mural on the containers at the entrance to TOHU, which citizens will be invited to beautify during the month of July.
TOHU will also present screenings of the documentary Frédéric Back: life size and animated films by the artist. These events will take place at the Maison d’Haïti, located near TOHU. Conferences on climate change and workshops on urban gardening are also part of the venue’s programming.
Finally, the 1er September, a day of family activities is planned. Young and old will be able to attend a theatrical tour, ecological storytelling workshops, a circus show and a theatrical guided tour of Frédéric-Back park.
