The affair caused a lot of noise, in the middle of the debate on the immigration bill. The president of the environmentalist deputies in the National Assembly, Cyrielle Chatelain, had accused the Renaissance deputy and general rapporteur of the Budget, Jean-René Cazeneuve, of having insulted and threatened her in the hemicycle. “You will be shorn at the Liberation for having voted with the National Rally”, she said she had heard. The altercation allegedly took place during the government’s current affairs session on December 12, a few hours later the rejection of the immigration bill, following the adoption of the motion tabled by environmentalists. The person concerned denied having made such comments.

According to a parliamentary source at franceinfo, the office of the National Assembly did not sanction the elected official from Gers on Wednesday January 24. “It was a ‘private’ conversation between two deputies, not a speech in the hemicycle”assured this source, adding that this conversation “was not captured by the reporting agents” and “it ends with a ‘word against word’”.
In a press release, Cyrielle Chatelain denounced a decision “incomprehensible”. “This just shows that for members of the presidential majority, as long as we are not registered, we can do anything,” she adds.
