Accused by clickblogs: “I never wanted to fight with a supporter, it’s ridiculous”, says Patrick Roy

Images of Roy scolding someone in the stands on Tuesday have been circulating the web a lot in the past few hours. Some sites even took the opportunity to make catchy headlines, one of them even going so far as to insinuate that Roy had tried to fight with an Oceanic fan.

“I never wanted to fight with a supporter, it’s ridiculous, he reacted Wednesday morning. At no time did I speak to a supporter.”

The sequence occurred at the end of the third period after a goal was disallowed to the Remparts. Roy claims his gaze was directed towards the goal judge, located at the top of the stands.

“Initially, I was looking at Ray [Cloutier, le descripteur des matchs des Remparts] to see if he had seen the footage. Then I looked at the goal judge. The Océanic player had got his hands on the puck and there should have been a penalty shot,” he defended himself.

Roy deplores the fact that supporters can circulate cheerfully behind his bench during the meetings. A similar sequence occurred during Tuesday’s game, when two supporters, cellphones in hand, approached Roy to film him while the game was in progress.
