Mexico: Acapulco seaside resort hit by Hurricane Otis
Mexico: the seaside resort of Acapulco hit by Hurricane Otis – (France 2)
Hurricane Otis hit the Mexican coast of Acapulco. There were no victims but the seaside resort was isolated, almost cut off from the world. Wind gusts of up to 315 km/h were recorded.
A city under water, cut off from the rest of the country. Mexican television broadcast the first aerial images of Acapulco after Hurricane Otis. The stadium, hotels and shopping centers were affected, entire sections collapsed. The ceiling of a 4-star hotel no longer exists. The inner courtyard was transformed into a field of ruins. Without communication or electricity, residents and tourists find themselves isolated.
A destroyed highway
The highway between Acapulco and Mexico City was destroyed by a gigantic landslide, so it is barefoot, in the mud, that many seek to escape by walking hundreds of kilometers. “There is nothing left in the stores, they no longer want to sell us anything. Everything has been looted, people are fighting”, deplores a man. A humanitarian convoy has just arrived but still no human toll has been reported. The Mexican president, who went there, was arrested. The famous seaside resort finds itself disfigured.
