A very real risk of capping for QS, according to Nadeau-Dubois

Immobilized in the polls since the election, Québec solidaire (QS) runs the risk of capping if it does not change, according to its co-spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.

“The risk of capping, we are aware of it. We do not live in a world of unicorns, ”supported Gouin’s elected official on Saturday at his party’s national council in Saint-Hyacinthe.

He had announced a few minutes earlier that QS would begin a tour of Quebec at the end of the summer with the aim of “better understanding the realities of Quebecers outside major urban centers”.

As part of this regional trip, elected officials will stop in Outaouais, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Mauricie between mid-September and early October. More stops will be added to the itinerary in the coming months.

During a press briefing on Saturday afternoon, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois was lucid. In the latest Léger-Montreal Journal published this week, its formation is at 16% of the voting intentions. This is practically the same score as in the October election (15.4%), an election in which QS gained a single seat.

“The optimistic reading of this is to say: our support is solid, and the victory [à l’élection partielle de] Saint-Henri — Sainte-Anne is proof of this. The pessimistic reading of that is to say: there is a risk of a ceiling, ”said the solidarity co-spokesperson on Saturday. “Both are true. »

“Our compass is not out of whack”

To prevent QS from languishing in this “pessimistic” scenario, he will have to talk to people in the regions. Whether they like the party or not, “GND” said. “The goal is to get out of our comfort zone. The goal is to think outside the box, to avoid the echo chamber,” he said. “The objective of the tour [des régions]is, yes, hustling ourselves so we can come back stronger in 2026.”

Does this mean abandoning the main principles of the party? No. “Our political compass is not out of whack,” said Mr. Nadeau-Dubois. “Our core values are here to stay. »

“Once we have said that, how can we improve our positions on environmental matters so that they are more unifying and that we reach Quebecers everywhere in the territory? This is the example of a question that we are going to ask the people we are going to meet, ”he added.

The national council of QS ends Sunday, in Saint-Hyacinthe.
