a teacher assaulted in the middle of class at La Herdrie high school

A third of the teachers at La Herdrie high school, in Basse-Goulaine, exercise their right of withdrawal, this Tuesday, May 17, following the attack on a colleague, in full course, last week. Thirty teachers no longer feel safe within the establishment and they believe that the management has not taken the necessary measures.

Aimed with a “powerful water gun”

This Thursday, May 12, “an individual with a face concealed by a hood, goggles and a mask entered the establishment with a powerful water gun”says Alexis Avril, representative of the Sud Education union. “He entered a class, in the middle of class, and he targeted the teacher. He filmed himself and posted the video on social media Snapchat and Instagram”. According to him, the teacher has been in shock and on sick leave ever since. The students were also very scared, some thinking of an attack. You need a badge to enter the school, “but all you need is a student to hold the door and it’s easy to pass”continues Alexis Avril.

angry teachers

Beyond the aggression, what pushes the teachers to exercise their right of withdrawal, still according to the trade unionist, is how the management of the establishment reacted. “We were initially notified by the students! Even the head teacher of the class was not informed. No action was taken until we exercised our right of withdrawal”. Since then, the management of the school has reportedly announced the establishment of an education course in social networks and an intervention with the class concerned.

What worries the teachers is that a weapon could have been introduced inside the school. “This time it was a water gun, but we fear it could be more serious in the future”.
