A tanker truck caught fire early Wednesday morning on Highway 50 near Lachute, in the Laurentians, following a collision with another vehicle.
The collision occurred around 6:15 a.m., between exits 260 and 272. According to initial information, a first accident caused a slowdown in the area when the driver of a tanker truck, who failed to brake in time due to the slippery road surface, collided with a stationary vehicle.
The truck then caught fire and the fire spread to other vehicles.
The driver of the truck was seriously injured, but there is no fear for his life, said the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
Around 10:45 a.m., Highway 50 was still closed in both directions in the Lachute sector.
