According to the latest report, this earthquake, the deadliest in the kingdom in more than sixty years, has caused nearly 2,900 deaths since Friday evening. It devastated entire villages of earth or clay houses in a mountainous area of the High Atlas, where landslides still made access to the affected villages difficult. On Tuesday, September 12, the Red Cross launched a fundraising appeal for around 100 million euros to support relief operations in Morocco, more than 72 hours after the violent earthquake. The international organization has already released one million Swiss francs from its Emergency Disaster Response Fund to support the activities of the Moroccan Red Crescent on the ground.
