In the southwest of Iceland, the eruption of a volcano began on the evening of Monday, December 18. The images are very impressive, a wall of fire extends for nearly 4 kilometers and lava gushes out of the earth.
In the images, the incandescent crack now stretches for nearly 4 kilometers. Boiling lava streaking the Icelandic landscape, forcefully projected several meters high. A helicopter is following this exceptional situation closely. On board, scientists are studying minute-by-minute developments since the start of the volcano’s eruption.
Almost unreal scenes
Around 11 p.m., Monday, December 18, a surveillance camera captured the precise moment when the earth opened up under the force of the magma. The images are impressive and the scenes almost unreal, the ground spews up to 200 cubic meters of lava per second. A unique spectacle for tourists. “Seeing lava emerge from the ground, here, in this very special country, it’s fascinating. We see nature in action, it’s like in a film”, comments a man. Lava had been threatening underground for several weeks in this region south of the capital Reykjavik, in the southwest of the country.
