Propaganda on the Internet: a Russian network dismantled in Europe – (France 2)
The French body fighting foreign interference has revealed the existence of a Russian propaganda network aimed at the United States and Europe. It includes 193 sites used to destabilize Western countries.
Flooding the Internet with pro-Russian content: this is the objective of a vast structured disinformation network which has just been revealed by the French authorities. Its nickname: “Portal Kombat”, to illustrate its offensive strategy, openly criticized by European foreign ministers. Last November, for example, a certain Jules Vincent, who claims to be a French journalist, created an account on X. With a strong accent, he accuses Kiev of having concluded an agreement with a billionaire to bury toxic waste in Ukraine. Everything is false.
Platforms all connected to servers in Russia
However, this man’s information is taken up by a site which aggregates content which ridicules Volodymyr Zelensky and criticizes France. This site also exists in Spain, Germany and the United States, among the largest Western supporters of Ukraine. The French agency VigiNum discovered that these platforms were all connected to servers located in Russia.
