“A President of the Republic cannot accept a law which he knows, which he admits is unconstitutional”, former President of the Republic François Hollande protested Thursday, December 21 on France Inter, while Emmanuel Macron referred the matter to the Constitutional Council after the adoption by Parliament of the immigration bill. François Hollande considers that “it’s a shame to pass a law that we know is unconstitutional”.

François Hollande denounces this way, according to him, of “defer to the Constitutional Council to cancel a certain number of provisions”. “What courage, what behavior,” annoys the former head of state. He also believes that this risks inducing “an extremely dangerous debate for the fundamental principles of the Republic”, because this calls into question the vote by Parliament, a criticism also issued a few minutes earlier by the boss of the right Éric Ciotti on France Inter.

Emmanuel Macron started on the center left, he ended up endorsing a text from the hard right.

François Hollande generally criticizes Emmanuel Macron’s posture in the face of “rise of fears, populism and everything that can be a form of rightism”. “In these moments, where divisions can be deep (…), the role of the President of the Republic is to ensure unity, cohesion, to appease minds, and everything that has been done for several months has the exact opposite effect.annoys François Hollande.

He thus accuses the President of the Republic of participating in “the deep division” from the country. “The country is also divided because it does not understand where the President of the Republic is leading it,” he adds. François Hollande criticizes Emmanuel Macron for “change footing depending on the circumstances, contexts and interlocutors”. François Hollande does not say “not responsible for the evolution of Emmanuel Macron”who was his Minister of the Economy.
