The officer in question, whose identity the SPVM has not confirmed, was not injured. He was outside the vehicle for a road safety operation near the intersection of St. Patrick Street and Sterling Avenue.

A crime scene was erected and investigators dispatched to the scene.

Inside the wide perimeter, heavily armed officers took up positions behind trees and utility poles. Other police officers escorted residents returning to their homes in the secure area.

Residents of the cordoned off area with whom The Press spoke said they were confined to their homes during the operations. The SPVM specified that this was the usual procedure.
