The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reports having been called to the scene of the accident, which occurred on the 9and Avenue, not far from rue Beaubien, late Thursday afternoon.

According to the first information gathered by the investigators on the spot, the tragedy occurred when a “cube-style truck” came out of an alley not far from the intersection between the two arteries. Its driver would have initially made a turn towards the south, on the 9and Ave.

In his maneuver, he would have caught the man in his sixties, who was traveling in the opposite direction, to the north. The pedestrian then fell to the ground, before being violently crushed by the wheels of the truck, which passed over his body.

The state of health of the victim, who was rushed to a hospital after the incident, was initially deemed “critical” by the police. His death was however confirmed by police sources in the early evening.

No other information was available in connection with this file, Thursday.
