A new cetacean sighted near Le Havre, the Seine-Maritime prefecture calls for witnesses

A cetacean was observed several times this Thursday, June 30 afternoon by sailors and pilots of the Seine, between the Normandy bridge and the Tancarville bridge, reports the Seine-Maritime prefecture in a press release.

It could be an adult sharp-nosed whale of about 10 meters. The observed animal moves slowly and appears to be in good physical condition.

A call for witnesses launched by the prefecture

According to specialists, if it is indeed the species mentioned, it is not uncommon to observe isolated specimens in coastal areas.. Ships sailing in the Seine are prohibited from approaching it within 100 meters.

A month ago, an orca lost in the Seine between Rouen and Le Havre was finally found dead.
