A murder followed by a fire in the vehicle

The person found charred in a burnt-out van in Saint-Bernard, Beauce, was possibly the victim of a murder, says the Sûreté du Québec.

“This is the most probable thesis”, mention the authorities.

The mystery still hangs over the circumstances of the blaze that occurred out of sight, in a cornfield on the edge of row Saint-Pierre, near row Saint-Aimé.

For the moment, we do not even know the sex of the victim.

Even if the modus operandi strangely resembles that of organized crime, this track would not be the right one, according to a source.

It would nevertheless be a rather unusual file for the investigators and no arrests have been made.

As of late Monday, police were still closely monitoring the site while a search was conducted elsewhere at a residence.

In particular, the police tried to see if there were tire tracks in the dirt road in order to establish a link with the presence of another vehicle at the scene of the crime.

The body of the victim was transported for an autopsy which should provide very important answers.

The damaged vehicle was also towed for analysis. In the afternoon, the dog handler was still on the scene with a huge territory to rake.

“It makes people talk, people want to know, but no one knows anything. It’s rare that business like this happens in Saint-Bernard,” says Alain Plante, owner of a small neighborhood grocery store for 36 years.

People are also wondering where the victim came from. “Usually, it will be known in a small place like here, but no one is missing there,” notes Mr. Plante.
