A 42-year-old policeman was hit by a car on the night of Friday May 26 to Saturday May 27, in Yves, south of La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime). According to France Bleu La Rochelle, he suffers from a broken tibia. The driver is “actively sought”writes the prosecutor of La Rochelle on Twitter.

The scene took place around midnight when the La Rochelle anti-crime brigade (BAC) intervened on a vehicle in the wrong direction. The driver, alcoholic, was apprehended on the national road 137, at the level of the commune of Yves. Two officers slowed passing vehicles, but one of them overtook and hit a crossing guard, who was then thrown onto the road.

Legal proceedings for involuntary injuries with hit and run have been opened by the La Rochelle prosecutor’s office. She was entrusted to the research brigade of Rochefort. In a press release, the union Unit SGP Police 17 “Strongly condemns this act, where once again the victim is a policeman.”
