Storm Louis claimed a first victim. A 52-year-old motorist died in Deux-Sèvres after his car was swept away by a river on Thursday February 22. The accident occurred in the town of Saint-Georges-de-Noisné, south of Parthenay. Trapped inside, the man drowned.

The driver crossed a ford crossing around 12:30 p.m. which was nevertheless closed to traffic, according to the sub-prefect of Parthenay, Lucas Turgis. The road was cut and prohibited from access because the Le Chambon river was in flood, France 3 recalls. The risk of flooding continues on the 3 main rivers of Deux-Sèvres, namely the Thouet, the Sèvre Niortaise and Sèvre Nantaise. LThe vehicle was extracted using agricultural equipment, according to the department’s firefighters.
