A minute of silence in the Commons in memory of Karl Tremblay





Members of the House of Commons observed a minute of silence Monday afternoon in memory of Karl Tremblay at the request of the Bloc Québécois. The Cowboys Fringants singer died of cancer at the age of 47 last week. His death shook Quebec.




This minute of silence, observed by ministers, liberal deputies, as well as elected officials from all other political parties. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was absent. He did not participate in question period.

Several deputies paid tribute to him and offered their condolences to his family.

“Since last Wednesday, Quebec has been experiencing an immense collective mourning and it is normal because it has been a lifetime. Karl Tremblay brought us together,” declared Bloc MP Caroline Desbiens.

Conservative MP Joël Godin has signaled his intention to nominate Karl Tremblay posthumously as an officer of the Order of the Pléiade of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie.
