The reasons for his action are unknown. A man with a “long gun” opened fire in an amphitheater of the University of Heidelberg (Germany), announced the police of Mannheim, Monday January 24. “The author himself is dead”, continues the press release (in German) of the police, without specifying whether he was shot or committed suicide. Four people were injured, some seriously, according to a police report (in German).
The facts took place in Heidelberg, a city in southwestern Germany. The attacked university site notably hosts faculties of natural sciences, departments of the university hospital center and the botanical garden.
According to information from the public broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (in German), the university has emailed its students not to come to campus at this time, but there is no “no more imminent threat”.
