A 60-year-old man lost his life after being the victim of a serious mountain bike accident in the Saint-François-de-Sales sector, late Monday afternoon.
The victim is Sylvain Boivin, from Saint-François-de-Sales, the SQ confirmed on Tuesday.
The 60-year-old would have lost control of his vehicle while rolling down a slope on a marked path, near Chemin du Lac des Bouleaux, around 4:40 p.m. He would then have rolled over before finishing his race under the weight of his mountain bike.
According to the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Stéphane Tremblay, it was relatives who were traveling with him on their own vehicle who called the emergency services after realizing that he was no longer following them.
“He was transported to the hospital and his death was pronounced in the following hours. Neither alcohol nor speed would be involved,” explains Stéphane Tremblay.
An SQ collision investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine what could have caused the fatal swerve.
