Donation collections for these striking teachers are being organized on Saturday across the province.
Indeed, members of the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE) who have been on an indefinite general strike for two weeks now are still without pay.
The public is invited to show solidarity by bringing grocery or gas station gift cards, hygiene products or other non-perishable foods to collection points until noon.
Given the outpouring of generosity from people who flock to the collection centers, donations are accepted until 2 p.m.
Teachers, for their part, can collect donations from noon.
“There is a big solidarity movement and we are from the organized world. We are recalculating all our expenses, Christmas is going to be much more difficult financially. Often, we have a network that will help us, but after two weeks, our resources run out and that’s why the Facebook group Mutual Aid for Teachers on Strike decided to set up this event to help us and to that we can have a little gentleness too,” said Audrey Montpetit, teacher in professional training in health, assistance and nursing (SASI).
