The era of Liberal castles in the Outaouais is over: the Coalition avenir Québec has succeeded in imposing itself even more than in 2018, by winning another riding, that of Hull, which it stole from the outgoing Liberal MP, Maryse Gaudreault, in office since 2008. Re-elected in Pontiac with a comfortable lead, André Fortin, who has been sitting since 2014, will now be the only Liberal MP from the Outaouais.
In Hull, François Legault’s party is also ending 41 years of Liberal rule in this riding, by electing its candidate Suzanne Tremblay, former president of the Outaouais education union. However, a three-way fight was taking shape in this riding and at one point in the evening, the Liberal, who was trailing by ten votes, ended up losing the fight. The Québec solidaire candidate, Mathieu Perron-Dufour, was in third place.
Moreover, the portrait in the Outaouais remains in good shape: all the outgoing deputies, who wore the colors of the CAQ, kept their seats. In Papineau, the Minister of Families, Mathieu Lacombe, won with an overwhelming majority of votes. The same scenario also applies to Mathieu Lévesque in Chapleau, who won with more than 10,000 votes over his closest Liberal opponent. In Gatineau, Robert Bussière was also re-elected with a comfortable lead over the Liberal candidate, who finished second. Remember that before the 2018 elections, where the CAQ interfered everywhere in Quebec, the Outaouais was a region dominated by the Liberals.
