Among the hot issues awaiting the new government, the situation in hospitals. In several cities, emergency services are partially closed due to lack of staff.

Overwhelmed emergencies. At the Mont-de-Marsan hospital (Landes), the staff keeps their humor, but all are saturated. The lack of staff, ever more patients, and the arrival of summer in this tourist region are causing us to fear the worst. At the hospital in Bordeaux (Gironde), the crisis is already having consequences. The emergencies are closed at night, only patients brought by the SAMU are accepted. “Our colleagues are exhausted, and today they no longer want to work in these conditions. […] People will do another job, especially for paramedical staff”, observes Jérémy Monteiro, emergency doctor.

Same tensions at the Versailles hospital (Yvelines), where the emergency department is on the verge of implosion. Bed closures, lack of staff: a hundred emergency services in France are in crisis. The sector believes that measures can already be taken. “It is absolutely necessary that on-call duty, on-call duty, weekend work be subject to immediate upgrades”, says Zaynab Riet, general delegate of the French Hospital Federation (FHF). The hospital crisis will be one of the first projects of Brigitte Bourguignon, the new Minister of Health.
