Pollen allergies: a high risk in three quarters of France

(FRANCEINFO)

The risk of allergy to birch pollen is high across a large part of the country, Friday April 12. Allergies occur earlier, because the trees flowered a month in advance.

Itchy nose, watery eyes… Allergies are back in Lille (North), Friday April 12. In this region, as in three-quarters of France, the risk of allergy to birch pollen is high. For grasses, oaks or poplars, the risk of allergies is medium or even low. Allergies are occurring earlier and earlier: with milder temperatures, trees are flowering earlier, a month earlier in 2024.

Rhinitis, conjunctivitis or asthma

Rising temperatures increase tree pollination“, explains Aurore Roynette, scientific communications project manager at ATMO – Hauts-de-France. These pollens cause rhinitis, conjunctivitis or asthma. Éric Ternaux, pharmacist, advises to “take a shower, to rinse off (…). You can also use saline solutions to wash your eyes.“. In France, more than one in three adults suffer from an allergy.
