Hundreds of businesses in Pas-de-Calais are affected by the floods. Friday January 5, with the recession, entrepreneurs noted the damage.

In Pas-de-Calais, the recession leaves behind waterlogged fields with, for some farmers, significant financial damage. Friday January 5, in Tilques (Pas-de-Calais), a market gardener walks through his flooded plots. Part of its vegetable production can no longer be marketed. In Blendecques (Pas-de-Calais), firefighters evacuate muddy water. The most affected traders support each other through the ordeal.

More than 40,000 euros in damage for a farmer

Mathieu Verdin, a butcher, flooded for the first time in November, was preparing to reopen. This new disaster could cost him nearly 30,000 euros. Several hundred merchants were impacted. A farmer lives with the consequences of these new floods. His cows had to be urgently evacuated and some fell ill. The operation is paralyzed for several weeks. Between bovine diseases and material losses, he estimates the damage at more than 40,000 euros.
