A great humanist has passed away

Robert Badinter, lawyer and former minister, has just died in Paris, at the age of 95. He will be remembered above all because, as minister, he abolished the death penalty in 1981. Jewish and French, he was, throughout his active life, a fervent abolitionist. The man aroused admiration. With his death, the world, and not only France, loses a great humanist. It is hoped that his burial will join that of other great men and women in the Pantheon.
