In Belgium, a particular game dates back to the Middle Ages. The principle is to throw a big wooden ball on barrels, and that requires a lot of technique.

A large wooden ball must be thrown to hit barrels. To succeed, it is above all a question of posture. One team has three shots to reach the goal, the other prevents it by returning the ball away. The task is not easy. So, once a year, goats (Belgium) is transformed between the streets are crowded, the cries of alerts and the houses caulked to avoid potential projectiles.

A game recognized as part of the intangible heritage of the Wallonia-Brussels federation

The tradition dates back to the Middle Ages and still brings people together. “As we know that it comes from afar and that everyone has always participated in it, we continue. It’s the joy of finding yourself, of making a game that is a little weird, not too complicated”explains Bob Coppieters, president of the Friends of Crossage. The game was recently recognized as intangible heritage of the federation Wallonia-Brussels. For the Belgian elected officials, it is therefore a treasure to be protected.
