Like every evening, the 11 p.m. news news takes a look at the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s Eurozapping on Wednesday May 15.

In Switzerland, a former African minister convicted of crimes against humanity. Ousmane Sonko, former interior minister of Gambia, was convicted of rape, torture and murder between 2000 and 2016, on behalf of President Yahya Jammeh. In 2017, he fled to a refugee center in Bern. This is where Swiss justice arrested him. At his trial, victims from Gambia were present. Ousmane Sonko is sentenced to 20 years in prison, a first in Europe under universal jurisdiction.

In England, classes should no longer hear about gender before the age of 9. The British government must announce the end of sex education in primary schools. A measure that questions teachers: “I’m afraid that the knowledge that children need to grow up will be used as a football between politicians”. In 2019, mothers demonstrated in Birmingham against awareness classes on different family models. A few months before the legislative elections, the theme could ignite the debates.

The birth rate is in free fall in Romania. No babies on the horizon, the numbers have never been so low. Romania is having half as many children as in the 1990s. This is due to a sluggish economy and the emigration of young people. “We need a national plan to raise the birth rate”, declared Nicole Brunel, president of the SOS Infertility association. An emergency for this country which has lost 1 million inhabitants in ten years.
