A fisherman drowns in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

(Montreal) A man from Jonquière in his sixties lost his life on Monday after falling into the water while fishing in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.

His boat reportedly tipped over while he was on Grand Lac Saint-Germains, in Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, in the afternoon. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) received a call around 4 p.m. for a missing man, said SQ spokeswoman Hélène St-Pierre.

The firefighters managed to recover the man around 5:30 p.m. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition. His death was pronounced in the evening.

He was accompanied by another man on the boat, who managed to regain the shore by his own means and warn the rescuers.

An investigator and a member of the forensic identification service have been assigned to the file to determine the causes and circumstances of this event.
