In March 2022, Buitoni pizzas contaminated with E.coli caused dozens of serious poisonings, and led to the death of two children. The Nestlé group pledged, at the end of March, to compensate the victims and their relatives.
The agreement was signed in the greatest discretion, at the end of March, between Nestlé, owner of the Buitoni brand, and the families of the 63 victims poisoned after eating frozen pizzas. It would amount to tens or even hundreds of millions of euros for all the victims. The amount convinced the families, discouraged by the slowness of the judicial system. “It is a reparation of these prejudices before trial, even before Nestlé could be heard”specifies Me. Pierre Debuisson, the lawyer of 63 victims.
The criminal proceedings follow their course
The Buitoni affair broke out in March 2022. Two children died, and dozens of others were hospitalized. More than a year after the start of the case, Nestlé is still not indicted. The agreement suspends civil proceedings, for which the families were asking for 250 million euros in compensation. The criminal procedure is continuing. Nestlé has confirmed the signing of an agreement. The families have pledged to respect strict confidentiality, and not to speak publicly about the case.
