A deputy mayor of Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) was violently attacked in the street of the town on Wednesday evening, France Bleu Paris reported Thursday, December 21.
According to the Saint-Denis town hall, contacted by France Bleu Paris, the victim, Oriane Filhol, was leaving a meeting in which she was participating as a municipal representative, when she noticed that she was being followed. Her attackers knocked her to the ground before hitting her in the head and body. The town hall specifies that the deputy has no injuries “excessively serious”. The attackers fled. The victim filed a complaint.
A rally on Friday in front of the town hall
The Bobigny public prosecutor’s office confirms that a blatant investigation has been opened for “aggravated violence against a person entrusted with a public service mission”, “violence in meetings and by people hiding their faces”. The investigations were entrusted to territorial security and will notably have to determine whether Oriane Filhol was attacked because of her position or not. The prosecution specifies that there are no arrests at the moment.
For his part, the mayor of Saint-Denis, Mathieu Hanotin, is proposing on X a gathering on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on the town hall square: “To stand together in the face of this unspeakable violence” and show support for his deputy.
