Loiret: a deer escapes hunters by taking refuge in a garden
Loiret: a deer escapes hunters by taking refuge in a garden – (France 2)
In Loiret, a resident had to almost physically oppose hunters to protect a deer which had taken refuge in his garden.
Sylvain Saucet, resident of the village of Ingrannes (Loiret), is not about to forget the arrival of a deer in his garden, pursued by hunting dogs. To protect the deer from the pack, he drives the dogs back using a jet of water. Then he intervened when horsemen, led by Count de la Rochefoucauld, entered his garden. “That we hunt an animal, I agree. But when it is trapped, it is 2023, it will please everyone if we let the animal go”declares Sylvain Saucet.
Hunters on horseback in the village
The village is located on the edge of four forests where hunting is practiced. The associations which bring together horse hunters specify that the law was respected and that the animal was spared since it took refuge with locals. “The ministerial decree of February 2019 provides that in such a case, the hunt will be stopped”, specifies Antoine Gallon, spokesperson for the hunting company. Keelye Fischer, spokesperson for the anti-hunting collective AVA, would like the town hall to more strictly regulate the passage of hunter riders in the village. The town hall says it is ready to examine the question, while respecting local law and traditions.
