A team of researchers discovered a huge coral reef 30 meters deep off the coast of Tahiti. An encouraging signal when we know the vulnerability of reefs to human activity.

Off the coast of Tahiti, in little explored waters, a team of researchers set off on a mission. In the deep waters, they found a huge coral reef. Their good health was an unexpected discovery pfor divers who come to photograph the site, located 30 meters deep. “The arrival at this magnificent place was marvelous”, confides Alexis Rosenfeld, of the One Ocean / Unesco project.

Could these corals adapt to their environment and resist global warming which has already destroyed 14% of the reefs? They are essential to the survival of many underwater species. By measuring this three kilometer long colony of corals sometimes longer than them, it is a discovery synonymous with hope. Proof also, that by only knowing 20% of the seabed, nature may be hiding other beautiful surprises from us.
