There is an urgent need to protect the coral reefs which could disappear in 2050 due to global warming. A few days before COP26, the France Télévisions teams will introduce you to sea gardeners.
Sea gardeners are replanting corals all over the world. An amazing and effective method for preserving biodiversity. The France Télévisions teams followed Sandrine Treyvaud, gardener of the seas. With his association “Ocean Quest France ” in Toulon (Var), it is very active and today transmits its unique know-how. She is also the only one in Europe to teach this way of replanting corals using an entirely natural technique.
The diving instructor first shows the rocks to choose from. “80% of marine species survive thanks to the existence of coral. It is a shelter, it nourishes and it also gives oxygen. It is super important to preserve the coral, without coral, there is no more marine life“, explains Sandrine Treyvaud. Once repaired, the baby corals are placed in the nursery at the bottom of the sea.
