The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to restructure the athlete’s contract.

‘Jimmy G’ has taken a big pay cut to act as a replacement for Trey Lance. His base salary for the 2022 season has gone from $24.2 million to $6.5 million guaranteed. He could also receive an additional $9.5 million in performance bonuses.
In addition, the footballer would have obtained a non-exchange clause, in addition to having the certainty that he will not be entitled to the label of concession player. This allows him to ensure that he becomes a free agent in the next campaign.
Recall that the 30-year-old athlete had obtained permission from the 49ers to negotiate with the other NFL teams, but it seems that none of them wanted to obtain his services. He hadn’t taken part in 49ers drills and team meetings during training camp.
Last year, Garoppolo completed 68.3% of the passes he attempted for 3,810 yards and 20 touchdowns. He started 15 of the 17 Niners meetings. The latter decided to give the ball to Lance in 2022, after selecting him with the third overall pick in the 2021 draft.
A new receiver for the Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have acquired Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Laviska Shenault.
In return, they gave an undisclosed draft pick. The trade comes a day before the deadline when NFL teams must reduce their roster to 53 players.
Shenault, who will play a third season on the Goodell circuit in 2022, caught 63 of 100 passes thrown his way last year. He had 619 yards but failed to score a touchdown in 16 games.
The University of Colorado product was selected in the second round (42nd overall) by the Jaguars in the 2020 auction. He has a contract valid for two more seasons.
Sony Michel released
At the Miami Dolphins, running back Sony Michel was fired.
The 27-year-old veteran has suffered the ax, as well as wide receiver Mohammed Sanu, defensive back Quincy Wilson and offensive lineman Adam Pankey.
Drafted in the first round (31st overall) in 2018 by the New England Patriots, Michel has four years of experience in the NFL. He played his first three seasons in the “Pats” uniform, before moving to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
In 55 career games, he amassed 3,127 yards and 18 majors with his legs. He also caught 47 passes for 386 yards and two touchdowns.
