An evening of song and dance will be organized by the Paris Opera at the Palais Garnier on March 27 in support of the victims of the conflict in Ukraine, the institution announced on Friday.

The artists will participate voluntarily in this event called “Concert for peace” and the proceeds will be donated to the collective “Alliance Emergencies in Ukraine”, which brings together Action against Hunger, CARE, Handicap International, Doctors of the World, Plan International and Solidarités International.

Among the guest opera singers is the Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska, who will sing among others Pace, pace mio Dio (peace, peace, my God), an aria from Verdi’s opera The Forza of Destiny. British tenor John Daszak, whose father is Ukrainian, and Canadian baritone Russell Braun will perform traditional Ukrainian songs.

Under the musical direction of Carlo Rizzi, the evening will also bring together dancers from the Paris Opera ballet who will perform solos or pas de deux.

The Opera has also dedicated its seven performances to a new production of the opera Wozzeck by Alban Berg (until March 30 at the Opéra Bastille) “to the victims of the war in Ukraine”.

Solidarity events are on the rise. The choir of the Opéra de Bordeaux is giving an exceptional concert for the benefit of the victims of Ukraine on Saturday 12 March. The Opéra Comique will end its open day for families scheduled for March 20 with a concert dedicated to Ukrainian children, the proceeds of which will be entirely donated to Unicef. The Paris Chamber Orchestra organized a concert on Thursday at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, as did the Orchestra of the Opéra national de Lorraine.
