An accident caused a fire which ignited the horizon for more than a hundred meters on the A1 motorway, on the morning of Tuesday, December 19. The accident occurred near Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, north of Paris. A truck driver died trapped in his cabin. “The only thing I thought about doing was getting my truck”indicates a driver. “We moved them back so they wouldn’t catch fire either”adds another.
Two trucks were parked on the emergency lane
Traffic jams occurred for dozens of kilometers. Three heavyweights are involved in the drama. One of them was carrying domestic fuel oil which spilled on the tracks and then ignited. Another was carrying wood, and its cargo was still burning several hours after the impact. Witnesses assure that two of the trucks were parked on the emergency lane. As they were leaving, one of them was struck. “It is obviously forbidden to park on the emergency lane. We see that the risk of accident is quite significant”deplores Thomas Fourgeot, director of the office of the prefect of Val d’Oise.
