From summer 2024, a “child manager” will be mandatory on all film shoots, a sine qua non condition for receiving public aid.

A new wind is blowing through cinema. Saturday May 18 in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes), the Minister of Culture announced the mandatory presence on filming of a referent for child actors. Every year, 4,000 miners work on the plateaus. For his film Rough diamondpresented in competition, director Agathe Riedinger took many precautions with her young actresses.

She looks forward to the change to come. “If we get to this point, it’s because there really was abuse before, so we really need to tighten the screws, and re-educate everyone in honesty and respect for others”, she confides. For his part, Emmanuel Thomas, casting director, believes that child actors must benefit from special support. According to him, this reference will make it possible to “also protect their mental health”. Without this manager, it will now be impossible to obtain financial assistance from the National Cinematography Center.
