The Minister of Culture was arrested on Tuesday in the Assembly by an RN deputy who denounced the exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo of a controversial painting by the artist Miriam Cahn, which she considers child pornography.

RN deputy Caroline Parmentier questioned Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak on Tuesday March 21 in the Assembly about a controversial painting by Miriam Cahn currently exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo, which she considers to be child pornography, and of which she claimed the stall.
“This painting represents a child, on his knees, tied up with his hands behind his back, forced to perform fellatio by an adult. Nothing justifies the exhibition of such a work, not even the pretext of denouncing war crimes“, she felt. She also regretted that the painting was “exposed in the public sphere without prohibition to minors since February 17“.
A controversial painting called “Fuck Abstraction!”
The controversy has swelled for several days around this painting by the Swiss artist Miriam Cahn, 73, baptized Fuck Abstraction! It is exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo as part of the retrospective My serial thoughtdedicated to him until May 14, 2023.
“Let’s not mix everything”, replied the Minister of Culture, denouncing “a blow of com” of the deputy RN Caroline Parmentier. Assuring that one cannot take a work out of its context, Rima Abdul Malak recalled that Miriam Cahn “documents and denounces the horrors of war” for 40 years.
Warning messages and contextualization
As the Minister recalled, the museum took care to post warning messages at the entrance and along the route of the exhibition, indicating that “some works are likely to offend the sensibilities of the public“. On the explanatory labels of the work, the context and the point of view of the artist are also indicated. It is thus specified that “the painting was made during the war in Ukraine and after images of Butch’s mass grave had been released along with images of numerous rapes of women and men.“For Miriam Cahn, it’s about”of a person with their hands tied, raped before being killed and thrown into the street“.
Faced with the reactions of misunderstandings posted on social networks, the Palais de Tokyo published a press release on March 7 in which he states that “they are not children“. And to add: “chis table deals with how sexuality is used as a weapon of war, as a crime against humanity“.
