The government announced Tuesday, December 28 a salary increase of 100 euros for the 24,000 nurses in critical care. An insufficient gesture for some.

The intensive care unit of the Timone hospital in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) is again practically full. Martin Riovallan, nurse, has not breathed these last two years but feels a little more revalued since the government’s announcement of the introduction of a bonus of 100 euros. “It’s always that taken from the salary”, indicates his colleague, Charlène Carvin. This premium of 100 euros net will be paid each month to the 24,000 nurses in critical care. The amount of the increase is far from what the unions hoped. “It’s still a premium, which is not counted for retirement, for sick leave”, insists Carole Crescenzo, trade unionist at the CGT.

Another point of tension: eligible staff. In the critical care service of the Nancy hospital center (Meurthe-et-Moselle), the staff regrets that the nursing assistants are not concerned by this aid. The government ensures that this bonus will be permanent and, to pay it, provides an envelope of 54 million euros per year.
