A body was discovered in a residence ravaged by a violent fire in Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval on Wednesday evening.
Emergency services were called around 11 p.m. for a fire that broke out in a residence on rue Philippe, near rue Saint-Louis.

Firefighters from the Fire Department who were able to bring the blaze under control found a body in the rubble of the badly damaged building.
An autopsy will be performed on the remains to formally identify the victim, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Hélène St-Pierre.

The investigation into the cause of the fire was transferred to the SQ’s Major Crimes Investigation Division, while a fire scene technician was dispatched to the scene.
Even if the investigation has only just begun, there would not be a priori any criminal elements that have been identified, added the SQ.
