Immigration: a bill examined under high tension Monday in the Assembly
Immigration: a bill examined under high tension Monday in the Assembly – (France 2)
The immigration bill will be presented on Monday, December 11, to the National Assembly. Political consensus appears to be a winding path.
The majority, relative as it is, holds its breath. The third version of the immigration text will arrive on Monday December 11 in the Assembly. Supported tirelessly by Gérald Darmanin, the text was toughened by the senatorial right, then toned down in Commission by the deputies. Two sticking points are at the center of the debates: State Medical Aid (AME), which allows access to care for undocumented immigrants, and regularization for professions in shortage.
Individual poaching on the right?
To win this battle, Gérald Darmanin also needs the votes of the right, a fight far from won. “We will not vote on the text of the bill as it was adopted by the Law Commission”, repeated Éric Ciotti, president of the Republicans and LR deputy for Alpes-Maritimes. The Minister of the Interior still wants to believe in individual poaching from the right, and is keeping up the pressure. “We have to go to the vote, on a text like this. (…) If the text is rejected, it will mean that LR is not voting for measures against immigration”estimates a former minister.
Gérald Darmanin wishes to avoid a 49-3 at all costs, especially since the text is “very supported by public opinion”, we assure Place Beauvau. At the RN, Marine Le Pen affirms that her 88 deputies would vote against the text.
