An inmate at Baumettes prison in Marseille died on Wednesday October 9 in the evening, having his throat slit by his 25-year-old fellow inmate, franceinfo learned on Thursday from a source close to the case. According to the first elements of the investigation, a fight broke out between the two prisoners in their cell.
According to a source close to the case, the attacker broke a porcelain bowl and struck the victim’s throat with a shard. Despite the intervention of emergency services, the victim died around 8 p.m.
The man who struck the shard is incarcerated for drug trafficking and has been placed in police custody. The attacker has been incarcerated since September, he is serving a six-month prison sentence, another source close to the case told franceinfo. The victim had arrived at Baumettes prison less than a month ago, adds this source. A murder investigation is opened.
