A 2022 Toyota RAV4 to replace a 2018 RAV4?

At the end of the lease of my 2018 Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD, which only had 24,000 kilometres, I bought the vehicle back for the sum of $19,000 (plus taxes). However, I am considering getting a 2022 RAV4 XLE AWD with the Premium package. The dealer gives me $29,000 for my vehicle. Is this a good deal? Will the new model be as reliable?

Hello Stephane,

Indeed, with so little mileage, your RAV4 has excellent value. While the used vehicle market is going through a major upheaval, it is not surprising that the dealership offers you such a high amount. After a brief overview of the market, we confirm that this is a very interesting offer.

When it comes to your next purchase, we believe the Toyota RAV4 is the best buy in the compact utility vehicle category. The Car Guide ranked it first, ahead of the Subaru Forester and the duo of Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan Rogue.

Before opting for the Premium package at a cost of $3,000, we advise you to properly analyze your needs. This package, which notably includes a leather-wrapped gearshift knob, LED fog lights and the driver’s seat memory system, does not appear to us to be essential.

Remember that for 2019, Toyota landed with the fifth generation of the RAV4. By proceeding with the transaction, you will find yourself in a vehicle with a more modern design and more advanced technology than with your 2018 model.

As for the reliability that seems to worry you, we have nothing particular to report in this regard. The Toyota RAV4 has been known for its great reliability for many moons.
