The woman murdered in a wooded area in the Chomedey district of Laval on Wednesday could have been targeted randomly. This is at least a hypothesis studied by the police even though she and her alleged attacker, a young man of 20, have no family ties.
The latter should appear this afternoon, although the charges that will be brought against him have not yet been determined, indicated the Police Department of the City of Laval.
The attack occurred shortly around 7:30 p.m., in the Armand-Frappier woodland, in the Chomedey district, south of Laval.
According to several media, the victim, a 46-year-old woman, was stabbed more than ten times. His attacker reportedly fled before taking refuge in a building located approximately 300 meters from the scene.
Alerted by local residents, the police arrested him there.
A very busy place
Early Thursday afternoon, he was still being questioned by investigators.
A command post was set up at the corner of Murray Avenue and 8e street, in the Chomedey district.
Several neighbors at the scene were shocked to hear the news of the murder, even though the Armand-Frappier wooded area is used by many residents of the area to get to the vicinity of Notre-Dame Boulevard, from where they can take the bus.
“It’s always very quiet, it’s a place we love,” said Ghassan Hajjar, a resident of the Chomedey district for 25 years.
