Monaco apologized for the gesture of its player Mohamed Camara, who masked the logo symbolizing the fight against homophobia

After the controversy generated by the Monegasque Mohamed Camara, who masked the logo against homophobia flocked on his jersey on Sunday during the match against Nantes, the general director of the Principality club announced, Tuesday May 21, that he had presented apologized to the League and pledged that this would not happen again next season. “As an organization, we support the action of the League”declared Thiago Scuro, director general of ASM, during a round table with various media including AFP.

“I had the chance to call Arnaud Rouger [directeur général de la LFP] yesterday morning (Monday) to apologize as a club for what happened. MB [Camara]added the director general of ASM, did this for religious reasons. This is a very sensitive subject at all levels, because we must equally respect all religions. But as an organization we are very saddened by this episode and we want to make it clear that we do not support this.” Tiago Scuro does not rule out a sanction against his club, while affirming that possible measures against the player would be “managed internally”. “The same thing won’t happen next season”he promised.

The Malian midfielder had stuck straps on the logo against homophobia flocked on his chest and worn by all players, coaches and referees as part of a campaign to fight homophobia led by the LFP at the occasion of the 34th and final day of Ligue 1.

The day after this match, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra demanded, on RTL, “strongest sanctions against the player and his club which allowed him to do so”.
