End of suspense. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on Monday April 29 that he had decided to stay in his post. The leader, in power since 2018, announced “to reflect on” to resign after the opening, on Wednesday, of an investigation against his wife for “influence peddling and corruption”. The complaint was filed by the association Manos limpias (“Clean hands” in French), close to the far right.
“I take responsibility for the decision to continue, with more force if possible. It is not about the destiny of a particular leader. It is about deciding what type of society we want to be”declared Pedro Sanchez during a speech. Our country needs this reflection. For too long we have allowed mud to contaminate our public life.”The ills that afflict us are part of a global movementhe judged. Let’s show the world how democracy is defended.”
