(Toronto) Soccer Canada confirmed Tuesday that the men’s team will get another good test before this summer’s Copa America when they face France in a friendly match on June 9.
Canada, 49e in the world, will face France, ranked second, at the Matmut Atlantique stadium in Bordeaux, home of the Girondins and with a capacity of 42,115 seats.
This match against France will be played three days after that against the Netherlands, no. 7, at the Feijenoord stadium in Rotterdam.
Canada will thus prepare for the Copa America, where it will be one of the six CONCACAF nations invited to the South American championship, played from June 20 to July 14.
France and the Netherlands are refining their participation in Euro 2024, which will be launched on June 14 in Germany.
The Canadians only faced the French once, in their very first match at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. France won 1-0.
L’Équipe reported a few weeks ago that discussions had started between the two national federations for the holding of this friendly match.
