Tim Hortons is launching flatbread pizza in a bid to attract more customers to its restaurants in the afternoon and evening.
The chain announced Tuesday that cheese, pepperoni, bacon and chicken parmesan pizzas will appear on menus nationwide starting Wednesday.
This launch follows a two-year pilot project in select restaurants in Calgary, Greater Toronto and Winnipeg.
According to Tim Hortons executives, the addition of pizza to the menu aims to court customers who are looking for options that go beyond breakfast.
The company’s marketing director, Hope Bagozzi, pointed out that Tim Hortons is trying to gain market share in the afternoon and evening, since it has a smaller presence in these slots.
This decision, however, will place Tim Hortons in competition with large pizzeria chains and family pizzerias, which have loyal subscribers.
