Hospitals in Marseille are under tension, to such an extent that 500 doctors in the region have come out of their silence, and have published a column to call for vaccination. The Bouches-du-Rhône remains the least vaccinated department in France and the intensive care services are increasingly saturated. At the Timone hospital, 70% of operations had to be rescheduled.

It is a vital emergency, the operated patient suffered a heart attack during the night. It is one of the rare vascular surgery operations of the day performed at the Timone hospital. Due to the lack of space in intensive care due to the Covid, 70% of operations have had to be deprogrammed since December. “[…]some less urgent patients have been waiting for 5 or 6 months for their operation “, deplores Frédéric Collart, head of the cardiac surgery department at the Timone hospital (Marseille). This is the case of a 43-year-old patient, who has been waiting since September for her aortic operation and risks a ruptured aneurysm at any time.

Faced with the outbreak of the epidemic, the hospitals of Bouches-du-Rhône are saturated, the intensive care occupancy rate is 106%, or twice that of Parisian hospitals. In this department, where nearly 90% of people in intensive care are not vaccinated, 500 doctors from Marseille hospitals have published a forum to call for vaccination.
